W Sydney, opening in Darling Harbour in October 2023, is now hiring a Banquets Senior Sous Chef. This instrumental and dynamic role is responsible for the strategic business leadership of the hotel’s Meeting and Events department. About the Venue

With 1300 square metres of event space across eight versatile rooms and a provision of world-class audio-visual technology. The Level Five event floor raises the celebratory bar with design details that capture the vividness of Darling Harbour including the expansive 592 square metre Great Room, featuring floor- to-ceiling windows overlooking the harbour and a 14m x 4m LED wall.

    Exhibits culinary talents by personally performing tasks while leading the banquet food preparation talent. Assists in coordinating menus, purchasing, scheduling, food preparation and plating for catering events. The individual is responsible for delivering a consistent, high quality product with an appetizing presentation. Works to continually improve guest and talent satisfaction while maintaining the operating budget. Must ensure sanitation and food standards are achieved.

    About You

    • Passionate about cooking and working with the freshest and best local seasonal produce 
    • Experience in a premium meeting and events kitchen
    • Food safety is a must 
    • A can-do attitude and a positive outlook
    • Successful completion of Commercial Cookery III and IV or equivalent 

       About the Role

      • Accountable for the quality, consistency and production of the banquets kitchen. 
      • Hands on leader. You will be required to direct the pass to ensure quality is maintained. 
      • Coordinates menus, purchasing, headcount and food preparation for the property's events kitchen. 
      • Works with team to improve guest and talent satisfaction 
      • Work within the operating budget 
      • Must ensure sanitation and food standards are achieved. Develops and trains team to improve results.
      • Develops, designs, or creates new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions for events.
      • Supervises kitchen shift operations and ensures compliance with all Beverage & Food policies, standards and procedures
      • Sets and supports achievement of kitchen goals including performance goals, budget goals, team goals, etc


        Education and Experience

        • High school diploma or GED; 1 years experience in the culinary, beverage & food, or related professional area.


        • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major; 1 year experience in the culinary, beverage & food, or related professional area.
