About the Role 

We are looking for a strategic and motivated Cluster Assistant Director of Finance to join the team on a Full-Time basis!

This key position functions as the strategic assistant financial business leader for Four Points by Sheraton Melbourne Docklands, Melbourne Marriott Hotels Docklands and  AC Hotel Melbourne within the Marriott International Melbourne Market. The role will see you assisting in leading the Finance team and providing expertise to achieve financial goals across each of the participating properties. 

The position will assist in the development and implementation of property-wide strategies and provides financial expertise that deliver products and services to enable the successful implementation of the brand service strategy and brand initiatives while maximizing profitability. In addition, this key role will assist in the creation and execution of a property-wide business plan that is aligned with the brand’s business strategy and focuses on the execution of financial and accounting activities and the delivery of desirable financial results. 

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Monitoring internal, external and regulatory audit processes and communicates regularly with the team to ensure consistent property-wide business objectives including the expectations and performance goals.
  • Ensures team members are recognised and valued through the participation in the associate performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed.
  • Verifying disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and support the Peer Review Process.
  • Verifying that the P&L is accurate (i.e., costs are properly matched to revenue, costs are recorded in the proper accounts) and statements are delivered to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Reconciles balance sheet to verify account balances are supported by appropriate documentation in accordance with SOPs.
  • Completes & reviews audits across properties to ensure all internal and external permits, licenses and contracts are current and supporting documentation is continuously collected, reviewed & filed correctly and efficiently within set deadlines.
  • Leverages centralized accounting processes and shared services (e.g., Marriott Business Services).
  • Champions the use of technology to create operational efficiency.
  • Generates financial reports and provides managers with analytical support to drive decision-making through the use of technology and information systems.
  • Efficiently and effectively informs and updates the executives, peers and subordinates on relevant financial information.
  • Attends critique meetings to review information with management team and advises the Director of Finance on existing and evolving operating and financial issues.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Verifies profits and losses are documented accurately.
  • Achieves and exceeds goals including performance goals, budget goals, property goals and team goals.

Candidate Profile & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting or related major
  • Proven experience in leadership in finance/accounting, preferably within the hotel industry
  • The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and management skills, with experience in developing others
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong business acumen and technical expertise in finance/accounting discipline
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently coupled with a strong attention to detail
  • A strategic mindset with big-picture thinking
  • Proven success in driving for results and building internal and external relationships  
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, accounting software)
